Erin Rowe

Erin Rowe is Professor of History at Johns Hopkins University specializing in religious culture of the early modern Iberian world. Research examines theology, race, gender and visual culture intersections, particularly regarding black saints and global Christianity.

Authored award-winning Black Saints in Early Modern Global Catholicism (2019), analyzing how veneration of black saints transformed Catholic traditions amid colonialism and slave trade. Co-edited The Early Modern Hispanic World (2017) examining transnational identity formation.

Serves as editor for Penn State University Press series Iberian Encounter and Exchange, 475-1755. Research combines archival analysis with visual culture studies to explore race, salvation, and cultural authority in colonial contexts.
