Dr. Liam Chambers is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of History at Mary Immaculate College (MIC), Ireland. He holds a BA, MA, and PhD from Maynooth University, specializing in Irish and European history with a focus on migration, Catholicism, and early modern intellectual networks. His research emphasizes Irish diasporic communities in France, particularly the Irish Colleges in Paris, and the role of Catholicism in shaping Irish identity across centuries.
Key research interests include Irish migration patterns to Europe, the socio-religious dynamics of early modern Catholic communities, and the interplay between political movements and religious institutions. He has published extensively on topics such as the 1798 and 1803 rebellions, the intellectual legacy of figures like Michael Moore, and the transnational networks of Irish colleges.
Dr. Chambers has edited major volumes, including The Oxford History of British and Irish Catholicism, Volume III (2023), and serves as a member of the Irish Manuscripts Commission.
