Lidia Pedro Sole

Lidia Pedro Sole is a Lecturer at the School of Art and Media, University of Brighton, where she contributes to journalism education with a focus on video journalism and experiential learning. She is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Wollongong, researching the experiences of women video journalists globally, with an emphasis on the Global South.

Her research interests include videojournalism, gender and race in journalism, war reporting, and feminist media studies. She employs intersectionality and feminist standpoint theory to conduct in-depth interviews, aiming to deepen understanding of structural challenges faced by women in the field. Her work bridges academic inquiry and documentary practice.

Lidia's teaching philosophy centers on experience-based learning, where students engage in hands-on projects that mirror real-world journalistic challenges. She emphasizes the development of skilled, ethical, and innovative media professionals capable of advancing journalism in the digital era.

She is producing a feature-length documentary titled 'One Woman Show: The Challenges Facing Women Videojournalists,' which explores the personal and professional lives of women video journalists in the Global South. This project forms a core component of her PhD research and contributes to broader discourse on diversity and representation in global media.
