Licia Fiol-Matta is Professor of Spanish and Portuguese at NYU, specializing in Latin American cultural studies and feminist theory. She holds degrees from Princeton and Yale and previously taught at Barnard College.
Her research examines gender, voice, and power in Latin American music and literature. Award-winning works include The Great Woman Singer, analyzing Puerto Rican vocalists. She co-edits the Palgrave series 'New Directions in Latino American Cultures.'
Her publications frequently employ psychoanalytic frameworks to analyze sonic expression and archival silences in cultural production.
