Libertad Aranza serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of World Languages and Cultures within Mercer University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, teaching Spanish courses at all levels since 2019. Her instructional scope spans conversation and composition, Spanish for specific purposes, and specialized grammar and culture curricula for native, non-native, and heritage speakers.
Her academic credentials include:
- Master of Arts in Spanish from New Mexico State University
- Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Literature from the University of California, San Diego
Ms. Aranza specializes in second language acquisition methodologies and heritage language maintenance within U.S. contexts, with research emphasizing pedagogical frameworks for Spanish instruction. She actively promotes practical language application through initiatives like biweekly Spanish Table Talks and co-founding Vox Populi, the department's creative magazine.
Currently collaborating on a National Endowment for the Humanities grant (2024-2026) titled 'Integrating Voices of Refugees and Immigrants,' she also co-hosted the Hispanic Education Fair and launched Mercer's inaugural On Mission trip to Mexico, creating real-world language application opportunities for students.
