Libby Adler is a Professor of Law and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Northeastern University, holding a joint appointment between the School of Law and the College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH). She specializes in Constitutional Law, Family Law, Administrative Law, and issues related to sexuality and gender identity, employing queer and critical legal theory frameworks. Her work includes the 2018 book *Gay Priori: A Queer Critical Legal Studies Approach to Law Reform* and co-editing the *Women and the Law* casebook.
Adler's teaching spans Constitutional Law, Sexuality and Gender in Law, and Family Law. She has held visiting roles at Harvard Law School and the University of Frankfurt. She was awarded Northeastern's Excellence in Teaching Award (2007–2008). Prior to her tenure, she served as a visiting professor (1999–2000) and part-time lecturer (1998–1999), with earlier work as a policy attorney for Massachusetts' child support agency, drafting legislation and regulations.
Her research explores intersections of law, gender, and sexuality, including LGBTQ rights, distributive justice, and historical legal issues like Nazi-era labor programs. Her scholarship emphasizes transformative legal approaches and social justice advocacy.
Her academic contributions bridge legal theory and practice, addressing systemic inequities and marginalized populations. Collaborations include work with CSSH's interdisciplinary programs and Northeastern's broader research initiatives.
