Douglas NeJaime is the Anne Urowsky Professor of Law at Yale Law School, teaching legal ethics, family law, and constitutional law. He previously held professorships at UCLA School of Law, UC Irvine School of Law, and Loyola Law School. He earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School (2003) and A.B. from Brown University (2000).
His research focuses on family law, constitutional law, law and religion, and LGBTQ+ rights. Notable works include Multiparenthood (2024), Parents in Fact (2024), and Conscience Wars (2015). He co-authored influential casebooks such as Family Law in a Changing America (2024) and Cases and Materials on Sexuality, Gender Identity, and the Law (2022).
NeJaime led efforts to reform Connecticut’s parentage laws, drafting the Connecticut Parentage Act (2021). He has received prestigious awards including the Dukeminier Award (3x), YLW Faculty Excellence Award, and teaching accolades from Harvard, UC Irvine, and Loyola.
His articles address topics like legal parenthood, substantive due process, and religious exemptions. He frequently engages with media and legal policy debates on LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive rights, and constitutional law.
