Dr. Liam Preston is a Lecturer in the Department of Classics and Ancient History at Durham University, joining in September 2022. His research focuses on Latin literature and the reception of Epicurean philosophy in the Neronian Period, particularly through the works of Lucan, Petronius, Seneca, and Lucretius.
His doctoral thesis, "exploratores in horto: Investigating Epicurean Ethical Ideas in the Literature of the Neronian Period" (2022), explores the interplay between literary texts and Epicurean ethical concepts. He was a key contributor to the 2020–2021 collaborative project "Ancient Recipes for Wellbeing and Happiness", which examined the applicability of ancient philosophical practices to modern lifestyles through partnerships with the University of Exeter and the University of the Third Age.
