Monsignor Liam Bergin is a Professor of the Practice in Boston College's Theology Department, serving as Director of the Undergraduate Rome Summer Program and Co-Director of the Catholic Education and Theology Minor. A priest of the Ossory diocese, he holds advanced theology degrees from the Gregorian University (S.T.B., S.T.L., S.T.D.), where his doctoral thesis on baptism and eschatology earned the Bellarmine Prize. His research focuses on ritual, liturgy, sacraments, and liturgical translations.
Educated at St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth (B.Sc. in chemistry/mathematics) and the Gregorian University, he taught sacramental theology in Rome before joining Boston College in 2011. His publications explore sacramental theology’s intersections with eschatology, liturgical practice, and ecumenical translation challenges. He actively ministers at South Boston’s St Brigid/Gate of Heaven parishes.
