Dr. Dermot Ryan is a Lecturer in Theology at Carlow College, St. Patrick’s, and a priest of the Diocese of Ossory, ordained in 2001. He holds a B.A. from Carlow College and advanced degrees (S.T.L., S.T.D.) from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Ryan’s professional roles include serving as President of St. Kieran’s College, Kilkenny (2013–present), Director of Adult Faith Development for the Diocese of Ossory, and adjunct lecturer at the Pontifical University, Maynooth. His research focuses on ecclesiology and theological vocation, exemplified by his 2010 publication on Francis A. Sullivan S.J. and contributions to The Furrow.
Academically, Ryan has held curacies in Ferrybank, Mooncoin, and Thomastown, complemented by chaplaincy roles. His work bridges theological scholarship with pastoral practice, emphasizing the mission-driven nature of theology. Beyond teaching, he actively contributes to diocesan initiatives and adult faith education programs.
