Dr Anderson's research focuses on maximizing performance in intermittent sports, particularly elite football. His interests include training load monitoring, energy expenditure, macronutrient intake, carbohydrate periodization, and rehabilitation strategies. He has extensive applied experience with elite clubs such as Liverpool FC, Everton FC, Mol Fehervar FC, and Crewe Alexandra FC.
His recent publications reveal a strong trend in using objective physiological and nutritional methods to optimize elite soccer performance. Key themes include energy balance, injury prevention, maturation-related risks in youth players, and metabolic adaptation. He frequently employs the doubly labeled water method and collaborates on large-scale international studies.
Dr Anderson actively supervises doctoral and Master’s students, many embedded within professional football environments. He also contributes to academic journals as a reviewer and disseminates research through platforms like Twitter and LinkedIn.
He is involved in applied research projects and consultancy, supporting elite clubs in performance optimization. His work emphasizes translating scientific findings into practical strategies for player development and injury mitigation.
Dr Anderson has contributed to book chapters on soccer physiology and is part of collaborative research networks focusing on human energy expenditure and performance science.
