Dr. Lia Daniels is a Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Education. Her research focuses on motivation, emotion regulation, and assessment practices in educational contexts, supported by SSHRC funding. She directs the Alberta Consortium for Motivation and Emotion (ACME) and the Centre for Research in Applied Measurement and Evaluation (CRAME). Dr. Daniels teaches advanced courses in educational research methodology, achievement motivation, and child development. She has been recognized with awards for supervision and teaching excellence, including the 2017 GSA Supervisor Award and 2018 Teaching Award. Her work bridges psychological theory with practical applications to improve student outcomes in schools, workplaces, and therapeutic settings.
Key research areas include teacher emotions, boredom intervention strategies, graduate student self-care, and trauma-informed approaches. She has published extensively on topics such as assessment fairness, student well-being, and the impact of pandemic-related changes on education. Dr. Daniels is currently mentoring an MEd student (starting Fall 2025) and oversees multiple research initiatives exploring motivational frameworks in diverse contexts.
