Leyla Gulcur is an Adjunct Associate Professor at New York University (NYU), affiliated with the College of Arts & Science. She holds a B.Sc. in Psychology from Duke University and a Ph.D. in Psychology from NYU. Her research focuses on cross-cultural psychology, with an emphasis on sexuality, mental health, and relationships. Dr. Gulcur integrates culturally sensitive therapeutic approaches, including the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), into her clinical practice. She has contributed to global initiatives on sexual and reproductive health, particularly in Asia and the Middle East, and co-founded the Turkish NGO Women for Women's Human Rights.
Her work addresses social norms, gender violence, and human rights violations impacting mental health. She has led research on homeless populations and co-occurring disorders, emphasizing outcomes frameworks in non-profit evaluations. A certified Medical Qigong Therapist, she also teaches Earth Qigong for Women's sexual and reproductive health.
Affiliations include the American Psychological Association and the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. She teaches courses on love, attachment, cross-cultural identities, and traumatic stress at NYU.
