Lewis Jayes is a Lecturer and Director of the Undergraduate Programme for Psychology at the University of Surrey's School of Psychology. His research investigates cognitive processes in digital reading environments, particularly examining how hyperlinks, skim reading behaviors, and perceived information importance affect comprehension and navigation patterns in web-based texts.
His experimental work employs eye-tracking and behavioral measures to understand attention allocation during online reading. Current teaching responsibilities include courses on Professional Skills in Applied Psychology, Cognitive Psychology research methods, and foundational psychology concepts.
Jayes received the 2020 Teaching Excellence Award from the Reading Students' Union for outstanding instruction in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. His publications demonstrate consistent focus on digital literacy challenges, particularly how hyperlinks influence reading depth and information retention.
