معرفی
Professor Sarah J. White is a Professor in the School of Psychology and Vision Sciences at the University of Leicester. Her research focuses on eye movement control during reading, with particular emphasis on parafoveal processing, aging-related changes in reading behavior, and cross-linguistic differences. She also investigates clinical aspects such as the impact of infantile nystagmus on reading.
Education: BSc Psychology from the University of Durham, followed by a PhD and post-doctoral research there before joining Leicester in 2006 as a Lecturer.
Research Interests: Her work explores how reading goals (e.g., skimming) modulate eye movement mechanisms and comprehension. Key areas include aging effects on visual word recognition, bilingual/cross-linguistic reading patterns, and neuro-ophthalmological conditions affecting reading. Her research integrates eye-tracking, neurophysiological measures, and meta-analytic approaches.
Funding & Awards: Supported by the Experimental Psychology Society, Leverhulme Trust, Royal Society, and UKRI ESRC. Recognitions include Fellow of the Psychonomic Society and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Teaching & Grants: Active in educational strategies for study skills, with grants focusing on cognitive aging and clinical reading challenges. Supervises research projects in vision sciences and reading behavior.
Labs/Teams: Member of the Vision Sciences research group at Leicester, collaborating on interdisciplinary projects combining psychology, neuroscience, and clinical research.
