Lewis A. Chodosh, MD, PhD, is the Perelman Professor in Cancer Biology and Chair of the Department of Cancer Biology at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. He serves as Associate Director, Basic Science, at the Abramson Cancer Center and is an Investigator at the Leonard and Madlyn Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute. His work bridges molecular biology, genomics, and translational oncology to address breast cancer progression, therapy resistance, and dormancy.
- Education: B.S. in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry (Yale, 1981), PhD in Biochemistry (MIT, 1988), MD (Harvard Medical School, 1989).
Chodosh’s research focuses on cancer biology, tumor dormancy, and genomic instability using genetically engineered mouse models, patient samples, and computational biology. His lab investigates therapy resistance, obesity-cancer links, and pregnancy-related breast cancer protection, with a strong emphasis on non-invasive imaging and functional genomics.
Recent publications highlight his expertise in oncogene signaling, stem cell dynamics, and metabolic pathways in breast cancer. Collaborative clinical trials like the WISER trial integrate exercise and weight-loss interventions for survivors with lymphedema.
Laboratory personnel include graduate students, postdocs, and computational biologists working on projects related to FGF signaling, c-MET activation, and tumor microenvironment. The lab’s multidisciplinary approach spans molecular biology, mouse genetics, and human clinical studies.
