Lev Gelb is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), part of the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. Previously, he held positions at Washington University in St. Louis and Florida State University. He earned a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry from Cambridge University (1995) and a BA in Chemistry from Columbia University (1992).
His research focuses on computational materials science, including data analysis, machine learning, surface analysis methods, and energy storage systems. Key interests span free energy calculations, nanostructured materials, and high-performance computing. His work often involves molecular simulations of complex systems like colloidal gels, ionic liquids, and porous materials.
Dr. Gelb has received awards such as the NSF CAREER Award and CISE Post-Doctoral Fellowship. His publications explore topics like aerogel modeling, TOF-SIMS data analysis, and phase equilibria in confined geometries. He is affiliated with professional organizations such as AIChE and ACS.
While currently not accepting undergraduate students, his research encompasses collaborations in computational mechanics, materials characterization, and interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of chemistry and engineering.
