Letitia Guran

Letitia Guran is a Teaching Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, specializing in Comparative Literature and Romanian Studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Georgia (2005), along with multiple master’s degrees. Her research focuses on global/transatlantic studies, Romanian/Eastern European literatures, African American identity, and post-communist/post-colonial studies. She has been awarded a Fulbright grant (1997–1998) and an NEH Fellowship (2022–2023), supporting her work on Langston Hughes and digital humanities.

Her academic leadership includes presidencies of the Romanian Studies Association (2009–2012) and Chair of the Romanian Studies Group (MLA, 2019–2024). She teaches Romanian language courses at UNC, emphasizing communicative approaches aligned with A1–B2 proficiency levels. Her publications span monographs, refereed articles, and digital editions, including the upcoming *A Negro Looks at Soviet Central Asia*.
