Leslie Ross is a Full Time Faculty member at Dominican University of California, where she serves as Professor and Chair of Art History and Visual Studies in the Department of Art and Design under the School of Liberal Arts and Education. She has been a cornerstone of the university since joining the faculty in 1985 and became Program Chair in 1987. Her academic journey began with a BA in Art History from Dominican College, followed by an MA and PhD in Art History from the University of California at Davis and Santa Barbara, respectively.

Leslie’s research spans a broad spectrum of visual and historical disciplines, including Medieval and Renaissance Art, Classical Art and Archaeology, Early Christian, Byzantine, and Islamic Art, and History of Gardens and Landscape Design. Her work delves into Illuminated Manuscripts, Text/Image Relationships, and the intersection of Language in the Visual Arts. She also explores Global Visual Cultures and strategies for Effective Communication in artistic contexts.
Her scholarly output—67 research contributions—reflects a consistent focus on medieval art and visual studies, particularly the interplay between text and imagery. Notable works include Global Medievalism: From Model Books to Manga (2016) and Elegant to Enigmatic: Text and Image in Medieval Illustrated Manuscripts (2015).
