Dr. Leslie Roos is a Distinguished Professor in Community Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba and founding co-director of the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy. His research utilizes longitudinal administrative data to study multigenerational health outcomes and social determinants of health. With over 240 publications and 16,100 citations, he has significantly advanced population health research methodologies.
Roos earned his PhD in Political Science from MIT and BA from Stanford University. His current work examines how early-life social circumstances influence developmental trajectories across generations. The Manitoba databases enable quasi-experimental studies on poverty, education, and health service utilization.
Recent studies focus on poverty's impact on academic achievement, mental health transmission across generations, and breastfeeding's psychosocial benefits. Roos developed the Concept Dictionary, an innovative knowledge repository facilitating research collaboration.
