Leslie McCall is a Presidential Professor of Sociology and Political Science at The Graduate Center, CUNY, and Associate Director of the Stone Center on Socio-Economic Inequality. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research focuses on social inequality, particularly intersections of gender, race, and class, as well as the political dimensions of economic disparities. McCall’s work has been supported by the National Science Foundation, Russell Sage Foundation, and Demos.
Her major publications include Complex Inequality (2001) and The Undeserving Rich (2013), which examines public attitudes toward inequality and redistribution. Current research projects include studies on media coverage of economic inequality, policy preferences, and gender dynamics in labor markets. McCall collaborates with institutions like Princeton’s Center for the Study of Democratic Politics and the Advanced Research Collaborative at CUNY.
Key awards include recognition for Complex Inequality as a runner-up for the C. Wright Mills Book Award. Her work bridges academic research with policy implications, addressing topics like corporate restructuring, family demography, and the political responses to inequality.
