Lesley McAra is a Professor of Penology at the University of Edinburgh’s School of Law and Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH). She has held leadership roles, including Assistant Principal for Community Relations and former Dean of the School of Law. Her research focuses on youth crime, juvenile justice, gender justice, and penal policy. She co-directs the Edinburgh Study of Youth Transitions and Crime, a longitudinal research project influencing youth justice policies in Scotland. McAra has been recognized with awards like the CBE and ESRC Prize for Policy Impact. She is also a co-editor of the Oxford Handbook of Criminology and founder of initiatives like the Leadership Foundation for Women in Law.
