Leonhard Menges is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Salzburg, focusing on ethics, social, and political philosophy. His research addresses questions of responsibility, blame, and privacy rights. He leads two projects funded by the Austrian Science Fund: The Sense of Responsibility Worth Worrying About (P 34851-G) and The Source View on The Right to Privacy (P 36226).
Education: BA/MA in Philosophy, Psychology, and German Literature at the University of Freiburg and University of Michigan; PhD in Moral Blame at Humboldt-University of Berlin. Previously, he was a lecturer at the University of Lübeck, where he established a philosophy program for non-philosophy students. He also spent time at the University of Oxford in 2014.
Research interests span the philosophical underpinnings of responsibility and privacy, with a focus on their societal implications. His work is highlighted through grants and the Salzburg Ethics Group website.
Awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award twice (2019 and 2024) and the International Main Award for Science & Research (2021). His contributions to academia are further detailed on his CV.
