Dr. Leona Huey is a Lecturer in Heritage at Bangor University's School of History, Law and Social Sciences. Her research focuses on post-medieval archaeology with specializations in burial practices, captivity studies, and conflict archaeology. She leads investigations into historical sites such as the Frongoch Prisoner of War Camp, emphasizing ethical considerations in contemporary archaeological practices. Recent projects include the 2025 course 'Castles, Quarries, and Communities,' exploring North Wales' contested histories, and the 2023 Pont Sarn Wyth Dwr archaeological survey. She has contributed to debates on Welsh historical education and led excavations at Mesolithic sites in Anglesey.
Her work integrates field research with community engagement, including collaborations with descendants of historical figures and national cultural institutions. Key projects include the 2019 Frongoch archaeological investigation and Viking site excavations in Llanbedrgoch (2012).
