Leon Worth serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne and Consultant Infectious Diseases Physician, providing medical leadership for infection prevention across two major Victorian teaching hospitals. He is affiliated with the Victorian Infectious Diseases Service (VICNISS) and actively implements healthcare infection surveillance strategies throughout the state.
His research specializes in preventing device-related bloodstream infections, developing novel intervention bundles for infection control, and monitoring emerging multi-resistant organisms in healthcare settings. He pioneers standardized frameworks for equitable reporting of healthcare-associated infections nationally, with particular focus on aged-care surveillance and immunocompromised patient populations.
Worth holds influential national roles including membership on the Antimicrobial Use and Resistance in Australia Committee and the Healthcare Associated Infection Technical Working Group of the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare.
