Leon Kaplan is a PhD Researcher at the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies (University of Bonn) since 2025, focusing on histories of enslaved suicide in the Anglophone Caribbean through frameworks of epistemic violence and Critical Archival Studies.

His research examines how suicide among enslaved people was framed in religious, legal, and abolitionist discourses, challenging assumptions about African 'immunity' to 'civilization diseases.' He works with primary sources like parliamentary investigations, plantation records, and Caribbean slave narratives to recover marginalized voices.
Supervised by Dr. Jennifer Leetsch, Kaplan’s work intersects with Atlantic slavery studies, critical race theory, and archival methodologies. His office is located at Niebuhrstraße 5, Room 2.022, Bonn.
