Nicholas Michael Sy is a Research Fellow at the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies (BCDSS), affiliated with the University of Bonn. His current research project, supported by the Heinz-Heinen-Fellowship (April 2025–October 2025), explores 'Ants of the same color: Incremental indigenous constructions of enslavement in Spain’s Transpacific West, 1565–1717.' This project investigates historical dynamics of enslavement, colonialism, and indigenous agency in transpacific contexts.
