His research focuses on authorship economies in early 19th-century America, challenging the professionalization narrative by analyzing multiple authorial exchange systems. His current project, Scarlet Letters, explores blackmail practices in the anglophone Atlantic world from the Early Modern period to the digital age, linking them to state formation and civil society dynamics. He also investigates print culture intersections with African American Studies, as seen in his recent Book History essay.
His publications span book history, literary nationalism, and semiotic analysis, with a particular emphasis on Edgar Allan Poe's cultural reception and Antebellum canonization processes.
