Leo Van Audenhove is a Professor at the Brussels School of Governance (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) and Director of Kenniscentrum Mediawijsheid Vlaanderen (Mediawijs.be). His academic career spans multiple roles, including Extra Ordinary Professor at the University of the Western Cape (2013–2022) and Honorary Research Fellow at the University of the Witwatersrand (2004–2010).
Research focuses on digital inclusion, data literacy, media studies, and public policy. He has authored over 325 publications, including commissioned reports on AI-driven chatbots in public services and digital inclusion strategies for Flanders. Notable projects include the SHALGO initiative on algorithmic systems and the Erasmus+ program enhancing university capacity in the SADC region.
Awards include the Francqui Chair (2021) and the Sibusiso Bengu Development Grant (2024). He supervises Master’s and PhD theses, with recent contributions to data literacy frameworks and digital banking inclusivity. Active in policy circles, he advises on media literacy and digital divide mitigation, reflecting his commitment to bridging societal gaps through technology.
