Lena Riemer is an Assistant Professor of Law at Central European University (CEU) in Vienna, Austria, specializing in migration, asylum, gender, and human rights. She earned her Ph.D. in international migration law from Freie Universität Berlin, an LL.M. from Yale Law School, and a law degree from Humboldt University Berlin. Her research focuses on legal frameworks for climate change-induced displacement and strategic human rights litigation in Latin America.
Her professional experience includes roles as a Mercator Fellow (2023-2024), Associate Protection Officer at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Germany, and research/teaching assistant positions at Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt Universität Berlin, and Yale Law School. She is a member of CEU’s Migration Research Group.
- Mercator Fellowship on International Affairs (2023-2024) for research on legal pathways to counter climate-change-induced displacement
Her publications address European and Latin American migration policies, climate change adaptation, and broader human rights issues. She collaborates with NGOs in Mexico and Colombia and has contributed to climate change policy at the International Organization for Migration.
