Jesper Lindholm is an Associate Professor in Public International Law, Human Rights, and Asylum at the Department of Law, Aalborg University. He serves as Study Board Chair and has held leadership roles in research networks such as the Global & Transnational Law Research Group and the MIX Center for Displacement, Migration and Integration. Lindholm holds a Ph.D. from Aarhus University focusing on refugee protection in Danish law.
His academic qualifications include a Master of Laws (1998) and Ph.D. (2012) from Aarhus University. Lindholm has extensive professional experience with UNHCR (1999–2005), Amnesty International (1998–1999), and Denmark’s Refugee Appeals Board (2013–2017). He currently sits on boards including the Nordic Institute for Migration and Danish Institute for Human Rights.
Research focuses on international refugee law, migration governance, and anti-discrimination frameworks. Key projects include studies on ethnic profiling in policing and responsibility-sharing during displacement crises. Lindholm has published widely on topics like maritime migration control, child asylum rights, and legal frameworks for Ukrainian refugees. He actively engages in policy consultations and media commentary on Danish migration policies.
His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to justice, peace, and responsible consumption through legal reforms and human rights advocacy. Lindholm organizes academic conferences on externalization of migration control and chairs interdisciplinary workshops on asylum determination practices.
