Leigh Soares is an Assistant Professor of History at Mississippi State University and affiliated faculty with the African American Studies program. Her research focuses on African American history, particularly the intersection of politics and education in the American South.

In her article 'Tuskegee is Her Monument' (History of Education Quarterly, 2024), she analyzes gender dynamics in leadership at early public Black colleges, highlighting the importance of HBCUs in American history.
