Leigh Johnson is an Associate Professor in the Environmental Studies, Geography department at the University of Oregon, within the College of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on climate risk and adaptation, political ecology, finance, development studies, and firefighting, with regional expertise in East Africa and the U.S. West.

Her work explores disaster and climate risk governance, the financialization of nature, and the undervalued labor in climate adaptation. She analyzes the political ecology of insurance programs in East Africa, catastrophe bond markets, and the use of incarcerated labor in wildfire suppression.
