Dr. Lei Zhou is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, directing the Precision Mechatronics and Control Lab (PMCL). She holds a Ph.D. (2019) and M.S. (2014) in Mechanical Engineering from MIT, along with a B.E. (2012) in Control and Instrumentation Engineering from Tsinghua University.
- Ph.D., Mechanical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), 2019
- M.S., Mechanical Engineering, MIT, 2014
- B.E., Control and Instrumentation Engineering, Tsinghua University, 2012
Her research focuses on precision mechatronic systems, including control mechanisms for magnetic suspensions, bearingless motors, and high-torque direct-drive electric machines. Applications span semiconductor manufacturing equipment, robotics, and satellite attitude control actuators. She has contributed to educational mechatronics platforms like FlexLab and LevLab.
The PMCL lab investigates advanced motion control systems, emphasizing transient modeling, field-oriented control, and innovative actuator designs for industrial and scientific applications.
