Lei Liu is an Associate Senior Researcher at the Institute of Economics within the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and serves as Associate Professor at the CASS University's School of Economics. He also holds the position of Secretary-General at the Center for National Balance Sheets of the National Institution for Finance and Development (NIFD), a prominent Chinese think tank.
Liu's research focuses on macroeconomic analysis, with specialization in national balance sheet studies. He currently leads a National Social Science Foundation project examining optimal sectoral structures for China's macro leverage ratio. His scholarly investigations address critical issues in China's economy, including local government debt sustainability, fiscal investment efficiency, and monetary policy transmission mechanisms.
Through his role at NIFD, Liu contributes to policy-relevant research on financial stability, debt management, and economic restructuring in the Chinese context. His work bridges academic economic research with practical policy formulation.
