Leejiah Dorward is a Lecturer at the School of Environmental & Natural Sciences, Bangor University, and a postdoctoral researcher in Dr. Freya St. John’s Conservation and Human Behaviour group. Her work focuses on the intersection of social and ecological systems, particularly on aligning competing interests among communities, local environments, and conservation actors.
- DPhil in Conservation Science, University of Oxford (2014–2018)
- MSc in Conservation Science, Imperial College London (2012–2013)
- BSc in Environmental Science, University of East Anglia (2007–2010)
Her research bridges conservation biology, ecology, and social science to explore human behavior in environmental contexts. Key themes include protected area management, rule-breaking, and the role of multidimensional poverty and socio-psychological factors in conservation conflicts. She employs mixed-methods and cross-cultural studies, such as validating the New Ecological Paradigm in diverse settings.
Recent publications highlight her interdisciplinary approach, with a focus on human-wildlife interactions, ethical research design, and community-driven conservation strategies. Her work in Indonesia and Tanzania involves workshops for scientists and policymakers, emphasizing behavioral insights and fair rule administration.
Leejiah collaborates with multidisciplinary teams under an ERC grant, examining conservation law enforcement and behavioral drivers. She contributes to national committees like the Welsh Government Biodiversity Action Targets and engages in field training programs across Southeast Asia and Africa.
