Lee Wong is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Monash University, affiliated with the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute. She leads the Epigenetics and Chromatin (EpiC) Research Laboratory, established in 2012, focusing on epigenetic mechanisms regulating centromere and telomere functions. Her work explores chromosome stability and genetic transmission, with a focus on histone variant H3.3 and ATRX mutations in cancers, particularly pediatric brain cancers.
Education: PhD from Monash University, followed by postdoctoral research at Murdoch Childrens Research Institute. Her research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
Research Interests: Chromatin structure, cancer epigenetics, telomere and centromere biology, histone variants, and brain cancer genomics. Current projects investigate mechanisms of H3.3/ATRX mutations in cancers and develop therapeutic strategies for pediatric gliomas.
Recent Articles: Lee's work combines computational modeling, molecular biology, and clinical insights to uncover drug resistance mechanisms and epigenetic dysregulation in cancers. Key themes include histone mutation-driven pathogenesis, telomere maintenance, and PML nuclear body regulation.
Awards: ARC Future Fellowship (2015).
Grants/Projects: Leads multiple grants including 'Advancing Differentiation Therapy for Pediatric Gliomas' (2025), 'Chromatin Defects in Brain Cancers' (2022), and collaborations in the Victorian Paediatric Cancer Consortium (2021).
Labs/Teams: EpiC Lab focuses on chromatin dynamics and translational cancer research, collaborating with institutions globally to advance childhood cancer therapies.
