Lee Martin is a Professor of English at The Ohio State University's College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a PhD from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (1994) and an MFA from the University of Arkansas (1984). His expertise spans creative writing (fiction and nonfiction) with a focus on narrative craft and life writing. Martin has authored multiple award-winning novels, memoirs, and short story collections, including The Bright Forever (2006 Pulitzer Prize finalist) and Telling Stories: The Craft of Narrative and the Writing of Life.
His research interests emphasize creative writing pedagogy, narrative techniques, and the intersection of personal and literary storytelling. Martin’s work has appeared in prestigious journals like Harper's, The Kenyon Review, and Creative Nonfiction. He has received major accolades including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and the 2006 Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching.
Martin teaches in Ohio State’s MFA program and co-edits Passing the Word: Writers on Their Mentors. His creative output explores themes of memory, identity, and human vulnerability through evocative prose and layered narratives.
