Lee Bebout is a Professor of English and Director of Literature at Arizona State University (ASU), affiliated with the School of Transborder Studies and the Program in American Studies. He holds a Ph.D. from Purdue University’s Program in American Studies. His work bridges cultural studies, literature, and social justice, focusing on race, ethnicity, migration, and political identity. Key publications include Mythohistorical Interventions (2011) and Whiteness on the Border (2016), examining Chicano movement narratives and racial dynamics, respectively. His recent work critiques reactionary language strategies obstructing social progress.
Research interests span Chicano/a literature, American literature, and intersections of gender, race, and migration. Current projects explore the role of public intellectuals in fostering social change. His scholarship emphasizes critical analysis of racial and cultural narratives in U.S. history and contemporary politics.
Teaching focuses on American and ethnic literatures, cultural studies, and interdisciplinary approaches to race and identity. He contributes to ASU’s interdisciplinary programs, fostering dialogue across departments and communities.
