Edmund Fong is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and the Division of Ethnic Studies at the University of Utah since 2015 and 2017 respectively. He holds a PhD in Political Science from The New School for Social Research (2008). His work focuses on the intersection of racial politics, American political culture, and institutional development. Key research areas include histories of race, race/ethnicity and law, gender politics, North American history, and cultural studies.
Recent scholarship includes his 2014 Routledge monograph examining American exceptionalism through a racial lens, and ongoing research on temporal frameworks in racialized political narratives. He teaches courses ranging from the American Presidency to Politics & Literature, bridging theoretical and applied perspectives in Political Science and Ethnic Studies.
Publications span Political Research Quarterly, Politics Groups and Identities, and the Oxford Handbook of Racial and Ethnic Politics. Current work explores how racialized temporalities shape political discourse and institutional memory in U.S. contexts.
