Amalia Pallares is the Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence and a Professor in the School of Transborder Studies at Arizona State University (ASU). She leads initiatives advancing ASU's institutional mission, focusing on equitable access, student belonging, and community engagement. Previously, she served as Vice Chancellor and Professor of Political Science and Latin American/Latino Studies at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), where she directed the Latin American and Latino Studies Department and held roles in academic leadership.
Education:
- PhD in Political Science and Government, University of Texas at Austin (1997)
- BA in Communication and Media Studies, University of Houston (1987)
Research Focus: Her work examines political histories and racial/ethnic identities within social movements, with emphasis on immigrant and Indigenous communities in the U.S. and Latin America. She has authored and edited multiple scholarly publications in these areas.
Current Roles & Responsibilities: At ASU, she oversees institutional strategies for inclusive excellence, ensuring equitable access to university resources and fostering a supportive environment for all community members.
