Dr. Leandro Mancano is a Senior Lecturer in EU Law at the University of Edinburgh's Edinburgh Law School, and Director of Internationalisation. He holds a Laurea Magistrale in Law from the University of Pisa, a Diploma di Licenza from Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, and a PhD in Law from Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Pisa). His research focuses on EU constitutional law, fundamental rights in criminal matters, and the Area of Freedom, Security, and Justice. He teaches EU Law, Criminal Law, and Asylum Law, and his work bridges EU legal frameworks with issues like detention, migration, and human rights. Notably, he authored The European Union and Deprivation of Liberty (2019) and has been a visiting researcher at Queen Mary University of London, Université Libre de Bruxelles, and the University of Copenhagen. He serves as UK Deputy Contact Point for the European Criminal Law Academic Network (ECLAN).
Research Interests: Mancano explores intersections between EU criminal law, migration policies, and fundamental rights. His work emphasizes legal harmonization challenges, judicial cooperation mechanisms, and the EU's role in safeguarding liberties in transnational contexts. Recent publications address globalization's impact on criminal law, detention conditions under EU-ECHR frameworks, and post-Brexit legal dynamics.
