Dr. Leandro Fantuzzi is a postdoctoral researcher affiliated with the Departamento de Historia, Geografía y Filosofía at Universidad de Cádiz, and previously with Universitat de Barcelona and the Fitch Laboratory at the British School at Athens (2019-2021). His work focuses on archaeometric analysis of Roman and Late Antique ceramics, particularly amphorae and cooking wares, to reconstruct production technologies and trade networks.
- Key Research Projects: Ergasteria Project (experimental archaeology of Phoenician kilns), analysis of Late Roman shipwrecks (Ses Fontanelles), and studies of Punic pottery in Málaga.
Research Interests: Combining petrography, X-ray diffraction, and geochemistry to trace the provenance and technological evolution of ceramics. His work spans the Mediterranean and Atlantic regions, with fieldwork in Spain (Cádiz, Mallorca), Morocco (Tamuda), and Greece.
Recent Publications address wine amphorae in the western Mediterranean, Byzantine-period ceramics in Ceuta, and Late Punic red-slip ware production in Málaga. His studies often involve multi-technique approaches (thin-section, XRF, GC/MS) to analyze kiln sites, urban contexts, and maritime trade.
Collaborations include researchers from Brown University, University of Oxford, and Universidad de Sevilla, with fieldwork contributions to projects like the Ergasteria experimental kiln reconstruction and the study of the Ses Fontanelles shipwreck cargo.
