Darío Bernal-Casasola is a Full Professor of Archaeology at the University of Cádiz, affiliated with the Department of History, Geography and Philosophy and the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters. He serves as General Coordinator of the International Excellence Campus of the Sea (CEIMAR) and leads the research group HUM1126 Arqueología y Patrimonio Cultural. His work spans the Strait of Gibraltar and Mediterranean-Atlantic regions, focusing on Roman port systems, amphora trade, and ancient marine resource exploitation.

His 15 most recent articles focus on Roman maritime trade (e.g., Ses Fontanelles Shipwreck), geoarchaeological discoveries in Gades, amphora contents in Baetica and North Africa, and interdisciplinary approaches to ancient food processing. He has directed ~20 doctoral theses but no specific students are named in the texts.
Projects include fieldwork in Baelo Claudia, Carteia, Tamuda (Morocco), and Pompeii, with collaborations across Spain, Italy, and North Africa. Current initiatives involve the ArqueoAlmoraima educational framework and the Portuslimen European research project.
