Dr. Leah Schinasi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at Drexel University's Dornsife School of Public Health. She holds a PhD and MSPH in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health and a BA in Environmental Studies from Vassar College. Her research focuses on environmental and occupational epidemiology, particularly addressing climate change impacts, built environment inequities, and health disparities among vulnerable populations. She investigates topics such as heat vulnerability in housing, urban greenspace benefits, and occupational heat safety policies.
Dr. Schinasi leads Drexel's PhD program in Environmental and Occupational Health and co-leads the Urban Health Collaborative's training core. She is a Harvard CH Chan Environmental Health Fellow and has conducted postdoctoral research at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, combining spatial statistics and participatory research to advance equity-centered environmental health solutions.
Her scientific awards include the Harvard Fellowship and IARC postdoctoral training. Dr. Schinasi's research bridges academic rigor with community impact, addressing policy interventions to mitigate climate-driven health risks. She actively mentors students and develops curricula focused on emerging environmental health challenges.
