Leah Abrams is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Health at Tufts University, School of Arts and Sciences. She holds a PhD in Health Policy and an MPH in Epidemiology from the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Previously, she served as a Sloan Postdoctoral Fellow at the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies. Her research focuses on social epidemiology, health policy, population aging, mortality trends, work-retirement dynamics, and mental health. Dr. Abrams has contributed to high-impact journals like PNAS, International Journal of Epidemiology, and The Gerontologist. Her work examines disparities in health outcomes across age, race, and socioeconomic status, with notable studies on cardiovascular mortality trends and the impacts of employment discrimination on older Black Americans.
Teaching responsibilities include courses like Social Epidemiology and Perspectives on Aging in the U.S. She has secured grants from institutions including Syracuse University and the National Institute of Aging. Her research highlights critical issues such as the rural-urban health divide, pandemic-related labor disruptions, and the psychological effects of unmet retirement expectations. She has been recognized through awards like the Sloan Postdoctoral Fellowship and the Angus Campbell Scholars Fund.
Dr. Abrams' interdisciplinary approach integrates demographic, epidemiological, and policy perspectives to address aging-related challenges and promote equitable health outcomes.
