Lea Kamitz is a Dawes Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), affiliated with the School of Humanities and Social Sciences within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. She joined ARU in 2023 to lead research on combating online child sexual abuse and exploitation through a multi-year Dawes Centre for Future Crime project.
Her academic credentials include:
- BSc (Hons) Psychology (First Class), University of Kent
- MSc Forensic Psychology (Distinction), University of Kent
- PhD Forensic Psychology (in progress), University of Kent under Prof Theresa Gannon
Kamitz specializes in sexual offending dynamics, particularly child sexual abuse/exploitation, gendered violence, and the experiences of non-offending partners of sex offenders. Her mixed-methods approach integrates quantitative and qualitative analysis to examine relationship decision-making processes and societal attitudes, with recent expansion into conspiracy theory consequences through ERC-funded collaboration.
Her 2023 publication in Sexual Abuse establishes a grounded theory model for partner relationship decisions, reflecting broader research trends toward interdisciplinary victimology and intervention-focused criminology. Conference presentations at NOTA, AP-LS, and ESC demonstrate active contribution to global discourse on sexual abuse prevention.
Professional recognition includes Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) and a Graduate Teaching Assistant Scholarship (2019-2022) at Kent. She has presented findings at major international conferences including NOTA, AP-LS, ESC, and ATSA, focusing on partner reactions and scale development for attitudes assessment.
