LeAnne Steen

Dr. LeAnne Steen serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling at Loyola University New Orleans' College of Nursing and Health. She earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of North Texas and holds an M.A. from Texas State University.

• Founder and Director of the Play Therapy Center for Education & Research
• Developed specialized courses in Play Therapy, CPRT, and Activity Therapy
• Secured a 2016 endowment and grant from the Heebe Family Fund at Touro Hospital

Research Focus: Her work centers on parent-child therapeutic interactions, with specific emphasis on parenting populations, diversity in play therapy, spirituality integration, clinical consultation models, and supervision frameworks. Current projects include evidence-based practices in clinical parent consultation and pedagogical innovations in CPRT training.

Professional Engagement: As Past-President of the Louisiana Association for Play Therapy (LAPT), she has served on its board since 2006 while volunteering on additional clinical mental health boards. Her Vita lists international/national conference presentations and publications on play therapy and counselor education.

Clinical Practice: Maintains a small private practice working with children (0-12 years), pre-adolescents, parents, and families in New Orleans, directly informing her counseling pedagogy.
