Lawrence Salkoff is a full Professor of Neuroscience at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, where he has maintained an active research laboratory since 1984. His work focuses on potassium channels, particularly their role in electrical signaling in the brain, heart, and other excitable tissues. As a neurogeneticist by training, his research bridges molecular biology, electrophysiology, and systems physiology.
Dr. Salkoff's research interests center on high-conductance potassium channels of the SLO family, which control and shape electrical activity throughout the body. His laboratory employs a comparative genomic approach, studying channels across species from humans to C. elegans to understand fundamental principles of channel structure, function, and evolution.
