Lawrence Mbuagbaw is a Professor at McMaster University's Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact. His work focuses on advancing methodological rigor in clinical research, particularly in HIV/AIDS, respiratory medicine, and global health equity. He has led numerous systematic reviews and meta-analyses evaluating interventions for asthma, antiretroviral therapy adherence, and health disparities.
Key research interests include decolonizing research methods, improving clinical trial design, and addressing equity in evidence synthesis. His team has pioneered studies on virtual care models for HIV patients and developed tools like ROBVALU to assess bias in patient-centered outcomes.
He has authored over 380 publications since 2013, with recent work emphasizing health equity in vaccine trials and the impact of guaranteed basic income on poverty outcomes. Mbuagbaw collaborates globally, including in sub-Saharan Africa, to address maternal health and refugee youth mental health through mobile health interventions.
